A modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights in order to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for the workers (man camp), assemble the drilling machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, troubleshooters, problem-solvers, and facilitators.

Seeing what he’s capable of with his amazing scripts and directed films in the past, I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed so far, after four episodes of Landman. Maybe it’s because I had such high expectations seeing all the big-name actors included, but also venturing into the boomtown lifestyle after an amazing sprawling adventure in ranch life. But I feel like Sheridan is having too much fun incorporating pointless scenes with Tommy’s ex-wife Ali Larter and his over-the-top daughter Michelle Randpolh, who was great in 1923.
I don’t see any of the subplots involving them adding anything meaningful to move the plot forward
Sheridan is best when he puts his foot on the action drama accelerator as seen in this second season of Special Ops: Lioness or all of his previous dramas. Knowing what he’s capable of is frustrating but with only four episodes in, I’m still hopeful that he’ll utilize Jon Hamm more and this show will take off. The mother-daughter scenes together are so cringeworthy and I hate to say it but Randolph is just too over the top and I can’t believe his acting at all.
I hope this isn’t another project for its own entertainment value like with Tulsa King s2 turning into a comedy interrupted by brief moments of high drama (I loved the first season)
I know Sheridan has her own umbrella and runs so many shows but I wish she would focus on quality over quantity because this series has a chance to be great if it gets serious.
