Every scene of this film wowed me at TIFF
The toilet mirror resurfaces intact after being repeatedly smashed during the fight scene.. Elisabeth Sparkle: There was some mild abuse of the substance. Everyone involved should be really proud of this film
The cast, the atmosphere, the visual and sound design, the music, and of course the symbolism of it all. Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley couldn’t have been better cast as the leads. Their dedication to the process and trust in their director was obvious to me. Their vulnerability brings that across and results in a very compelling fever dream.
It goes deeper than that
For me, it’s a future cult classic. It’s physical/psychological horror, so don’t expect jump scares. I got lost in thought during the film (as a 47-year-old woman, it really spoke to me). But it’s also a lot of fun!
Take it seriously as a true work of art, but at the same time don’t, and you’ll have a blast
